As a Contractor we have a need to make drawings and not via computer we have been using old drafting table and T Sq. but we found this great 36" Pro-Draft Parallel Bar by Martin Universal that fit our 42" table at such a good price we could not pass it up. It arrived well packed, installation instructions and installation was straight forward. Unit works well and on line ordering experience with Drafting Equipment Warehouse was also excellent.

Pros:
  • well made
  • very attractive
Cons:
The aluminum construction is well done and feels that it will be very durable. All of the slides work well, it was easy to install, and the stop knob built into the parallel bar itself is very convenient.

These are a dying breed. This one is better than the maylines that I considered standard before (no longer made).

Pros:
  • price
  • single locking knob
  • ease of installation
  • clear body
Cons:
I used a Mayline bar (no longer available) for way over 20 years, then I briefly had a bar by Alvin for less than 5 before it fell apart. I was happy to find the Martin Universal Parallel bar and I started using it immediately out of necessity. Installation was standard and instructions were straightforward. The "see-through" nature of the bar that I thought would be distracting I have found to be helpful. I have found the locking knob to perhaps too easily lose its setting but the single knob instead of two is an excellent improvement. Hopefully it will compare to the Mayline in longevity and outlast the Alvin (but that is a low bar to surpass- so to speak). Time will tell but I am very happy with the purchase so far.
