The legend continues: it even applies to simple compass leads. I am never left unsatisfied at the quality of these compass leads.

Pros:
  • The exact right material for the job
Cons:
  • Plastic container instead of cardboard
I purchased pre sharpened graphite compass points in bulk. They came in a small clear container with a foam padded bottom that is of no importance, other than to protect and store the points. I appreciate that it was all so generic and minimal, with no blister-pack, no cardboard backer panel or large colorful graphics meant to draw the eye in competitive store displays. The graphite is excellent, and has a well formed wedge-sharpened end, ready for use. This is superior to those sharpened to points, or worse yet, not sharpened at all. Points do not stay sharp as long as wedge cuts. Also, resharpening the wedge is as simple as dragging across a fine piece of sandpaper, or scraped with a sharp blade. The price was actually ridiculously cheap. I gave the "appearance" a 4-star rating because it literally has nothing to do with appearance. A 5-star rating would go to something where appearance was of value, like a fancy dessert, or a fine art painting.
