I installed the wires exactly as the instructions suggested, crossing the two wires inside the parallel bar so they could end at opposite corners. However, the parallel bar is still somewhat sensitive to going out of parallel unless it is carefully pushed at the center of the bar.

Could it be that I do not have enough tension on the extension spring at the top of the drawing board?

The old, damaged wire that I replaced had vinyl insulation on it; could it be that the vinyl insulation allowed the bar to move up and down more smoothly?

After about 30 years, my Mayline parallel rule wire broke. Very happy to find a new one - glad not everyone has gone digital .

Great product & excellent service

I looked high and low for the right parts to fix my Mayline, and this was the only place I found them. The price was very reasonable too. As well, they offer many hand drafting items that us luddites still like to use, and it's nice to see someone still values the business. The only thing I would have added to the package are the small black knobs needed to loosen the parallel bar. But all in all, a great value.
