Originally the Technigraph had an aluminum barrel and they were some of the best quality lead holders ever, now they are plastic. The plastic is actually pretty good, it is very straight, which gives a good line when you twist the pencil as you draw, but I like the aluminum barrel, it just feels better and of course is stiffer. You have to spend more and get the Koh-I-Noor Adapto model to get the aluminum barrel, and I did get one of those also, I like it better. My 3 stars for the value is because I thought it sould be even cheaper with plastic.

I bought these two pencils to add to the one I bought in 1983! In the intervening 38 years, the design has barely changed at all. I love that! And now I have three pencils, each loaded with a different grade of lead. Thank you!
