Overall the Safco 5' drafting table is just what I needed as I have moved my design office to my home. My venerable 40 year old Hamilton 6' table was simply too large to go through the 30" doorway in the room I'm using as a home office so purchasing the 5' disassembled Safco table was a good decision.

It was delivered in 2 boxes, and it only took me about 90 minutes to put together. It's not quite the quality of the Hamilton but it is more than good enough. My wife gave me a hand when it came time to mount the heavy top on the base.

I also ordered the Vyco green vinyl and applied it over the tabletop using double-sided Scotch tape. This is a must if you're doing pencil drawing on the table as the new top is a hard laminate type material that has no cushion.

I'm happy with the Safco table and would recommend it to anyone.

Great table for half the price of other brands. I would highly recommend for use as a standing desk also.

Pros:
  • great price
  • fast shipping
  • straightforward assembly
  • sturdy
  • beautiful to look at
Cons:
  • lighter weight drawers
I absolutely love my drafting table! It arrived quickly, in perfect condition, and was fairly straightforward to assemble. With the exception of lifting the table top onto the base top (the table top is very heavy and really does require two people) I was able to assemble the base by myself. I'm a 5'4" petite female so wasn't sure I'd be able to do this but with a bit of effort I did - first with the pre-assembled base top upside down to attach the legs and footrest (take the drawers out first), then moved upright to reinsert the drawers and complete the table top assembly. The drawers aren't quite as heavy duty as I was imagining but everything is still very sturdy so this is really not an issue. The table looks just as it does on the website and is perfect, even in my tiny room. I couldn't be happier. :-)
