    Koh-i-Noor Universal Drawing Ink

    Model Number: 3080F.BLA / 30804.BLA

The Koh-I-Noor® line of Universal® inks was first developed for use with technical pens. The dye base eliminates the potential for cloggling the finest nibbed Rapidogaph® Pens, and offers an intense color laydown. The shellac used in our ink formula creates a waterproof ink that can be used on both paper and film substrates. The black ink is highly opaque, and the white is semi-opaque, while the colored inks are semi-transparent.

Not only are these inks ideal for use with Koh-I-Noor® technical pens, but they can also be used with airbrushes, crowquill pens, and paint brushes.

    Features:

    • Black ink is highly opaque
    • Colored inks are semi-transparent
    • Waterproof ink that can be used on both paper and film substrates
    • Cleans up easily with the Koh-I-Noor pen cleaner and Rapidoeeze® pen cleaner system
    • The 3/4 oz. size has a convenient dropper spout ideal for filling technical pens and art markers
    • The larger size bottles of black ink have a flip up spout for controlled filling and mixing applications

    Product Dimensions:
    • Outside Dimensions: 3/4oz & 8oz.
    • Product Weight: 0.13 lbs.

    Cons:
Ultradraw and Universal are probably THE technical pen inks in North America. Staedtler makes a great ink but it is only available for high prices in small little bottles (same with Eon Abyss). Ultradraw has a longer drying time than Universal and feathers a bit more on certain papers (e.g., Strathmore 300 bristol). Neither ink is as black as some of the fine art inks like Talens drawing, Talens india or Sennelier china. However, the Koh-i-noor inks are matte and good for scanning/photography. I find it a bit thin for brush work, but in a dip pen it is free flowing and expressive, provided you have a paper that can take it. For film, use rapidraw instead. It's not a cheap ink, but buying the 8oz gives it to you at $3.00 per oz. Just wish that DEW carried the 32oz size and the other colors. Shelf life appears to be quite long.
